Time to make some cold hard cash in the NFL the next two days

Blogged under Bloglockers, Football, Vegas Lines, Front Page, General by admin on Saturday 26 November 2011 at 5:42 pm

The NFL games are either mis-matches this weekend or very tight games as far as the pointspread is concerned.  I call them like I see them and here’s what I think about this weekend’s games in the NFL:

LIKE STEALING CANDY FROM A BABY:

Carolina Panthers (-3.5) over the Indianapolis Colts - Cam Newton is going to be outstanding tomorrow as the Panthers might just score every time they get the ball.  The Colts are so inept offensively that they won’t be able to keep up despite dealing with the Panthers’ D.  I like the Panthers to win this game 41-20 tomorrow.

REALLY SOLID BETS:

Pittsburgh Steelers (-10.5) over Kansas City Chiefs - The Chiefs have been awful and they will be no match for the hungry Steelers.  Tyler Palko is a pathetic QB.  The Steelers are going to win this game 30-6.

Houston Texans (-6.5) over the Jacksonville Jaguars - The Jaguars are bringing a butter knife to a gun fight tomorrow.  At least the game will be over quickly with both teams running so much.  I like the Texans to win this game 24-7.

Arizona Cardinals (+3) over the St. Louis Rams - Poor Sam Bradford looks like a pinata in the pocket for the Rams.  I like the Cardinals to win this game 20-13.

MORE MONEYMAKERS:

Minnesota Vikings (+9.5) over the Atlanta Falcons - The Vikings are going to keep this game close enough to cover the spread, but they will fall short of winning it.  I like the Falcons to win this game 23-21.

San Diego Chargers (-6) over the Denver Broncos - Philip Rivers is finally going to have a good game tomorrow, book it!  I like the Chargers to win tomorrow 30-17.

Tennessee Titans (-3.5) over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Something appears to be wrong with Josh Freeman, either physically or mentally.  For that reason, I like the Titans to win this game 27-17.

NOT BAD:

Cincinnati Bengals (-7) over the Cleveland Browns - The Browns can’t score more than 17 points in a game, making it very hard to win in the NFL.  I like the Bengals to win this game 23-13 and to cover the point spread.

ALMOST TOO CLOSE TO CALL:

New York Jets (-9.5) over the Buffalo Bills - The Bills sit a light at the end of the tunnel, but it’s coming from an oncoming train.  I like the Jets to win this game 24-13.

Chicago Bears (+4) over the Oakland Raiders - The Bears are starting Caleb Hanie at QB and that’s not a good thing.  But, RB Matt Forte will will the Bears to stay close tomorrow.  I like the Raiders to win this game 20-17.

New York Giants (+7) over the New Orleans Saints - This is my upset alert on Monday Night Football.  The Giants have played very well on the road but they won’t be quite good enough to win this game.  I like the Saints to win 30-24.

Washington Redskins (+3.5) over the Seattle Seahawks - The Redskins will have the good Rex Grossman this weekend, but it won’t be enough to win in a very tough environment.  I like the Seahawks to win this game 20-17.

New England Patriots (-3.5) over the Philadelphia Eagles - The Eagles woke up last weekend, but beating the Patriots is a whole different animal.  I like the Patriots to win this game 27-23.

Mark Eaton did the dirty work for the Utah Jazz

Blogged under Bloglockers, Basketball, Front Page, General by admin on Saturday 26 November 2011 at 5:25 pm

When you think about the Utah Jazz, John Stockton and Karl Malone’s names usually come to mind first.  Center Mark Eaton played for the Jazz from 1982-1993 and he did the dirty work, so that Stockton & Malone didn’t have to worry about it much.  Eaton played in 875 games (815 starts) in his 11 years with the Jazz and he averaged 28.8 minutes, 6.0 points, 7.9 rebounds, 1.0 assist and 3.5 blocked shots per game.  Eaton is #4 in NBA history in blocked shots with 3,064 of them.  He led the NBA in blocked shots four times in his career with the Jazz.  Eaton was the last line of defense for the Jazz when they were in their heyday and he deserves his credit for that.

Urban Meyer is likely to become the next head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes

47-year old Urban Meyer is about to be named the Buckeyes’ new head coach, likely next week.  It has been reported that he’s going to a get a 7-year, $40 million dollar deal.  Meyer will look the breathe life back into a Buckeyes’ football team that is under fire due to violating a lot of NCAA rules that will likely result in big time sanctions in the near future.  That is likely why the Buckeyes had to commit to him for 7 years.  Meyer has been a college head coach for 10 years now and he has a career record of 104-23 (81.9%) and he is 7-1 in Bowl Games including National Titles in 2006 and 2008 with the Florida Gators.  In his first year on the job at Bowling Green, Utah and Florida, Meyer has a combined record of 27-8 (77.1%), so look for the Buckeyes to get back on the right track right away under him.  I think this was a great move for the Buckeyes as Meyer has been a big time winner in his career so far.

There is money to be made this weekend betting on the NFL

The games look consistently good betting wise later today in the NFL.  Here is how I see the games going against the spread today and tomorrow night:

BET THE CAR PAYMENT:

New York Giants (-5.5) over the Philadelphia Eagles - The Giants thumped the Eagles earlier this year in Philly.  In that game the Eagles were healthy, but they are starting Vince Young at QB and Riley Cooper at WR tonight.  I like the Giants to really beat up on the Eagles tonight by the score of 27-10.

Dallas Cowboys (-7) over the Washington Redskins - The Redskins are hurting offensively right now where they have suffered a ton of injuries.  The Cowboys love beating up on bad teams and the Redskins certainly qualify as one of those.  I like the Cowboys to win this game 27-10.

SOLID PLAYS:

Green Bay Packers (-14.5) over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers - The Buccaneers have not played well lately and they aren’t going to be much of a challenge for the Packers today at Lambeau Field.  I like the Packers to win this game 35-13.

Chicago Bears (-3.5) over the San Diego Chargers - These teams are pretty even talent wise.  But, I will take Lovie Smith and his Bears to win this game at Soldier Field by the score of 31-21.

New England Patriots (-15) over the Kansas City Chiefs - The Chiefs are going to start Tyler Palko at QB this Monday Night?  Enough said!  I like the Patriots to roll 34-13 in this game.

Jacksonville Jaguars (+1) over the Cleveland Browns - The Browns are good at finding ways to lose games.  The Jaguars have played much better lately and I think they pull the road upset, 17-13 over the Browns.

Arizona Cardinals (+10) over the San Francisco 49ers - The Cardinals have been playing pretty well lately.  The Niners are a ball control offense, so I think they will win the game, but 23-17 with a Cardinals’ cover.

TIGHTER PLAYS:

Cincinnati Bengals (+6.5) over the Baltimore Ravens - The Bengals proved last weekend that they could trade punches with the Steelers, before falling a tad short.  The same thing is going to happen this week as the Ravens are going to win 23-20, but the Bengals are going to cover the pointspread.

Tennessee Titans (+6) over the Atlanta Falcons - This is a very important game for both teams and that’s why I think it’s going to be a close one.  I like the Falcons to win this game 26-23, but I like the Titans to cover the spread.

Oakland Raiders (pick) over the Minnesota Vikings - The Vikings are going to keep this game close, but, in the end I like the Raiders to win this game 20-17.

Miami Dolphins (-1.5) over the Buffalo Bills - The Bills’ early season success is proving to have been a mirage.  The Dolphins have played excellent ball the last two weeks and it will continue today when they win 21-17.

Carolina Panthers (+7) over the Detroit Lions - The Panthers laid an egg last weekend, but I think they will rebound….at least offensively today.  But, I see an angry Lions’ team  beating them 28-23.

PUSH CITY:

St. Louis Rams (-3) over the Seattle Seahawks - The Seahawks have lost 2/5 of their starting O-Line this week due to injuries, which is going to be bad news today.  I like the Rams to win this game 23-20 and for the game to be a push.

Who doubts the great Tim Tebow?

Blogged under Bloglockers, Football, Front Page, General by admin on Friday 18 November 2011 at 2:31 pm

I wasn’t sure that Tim Tebow was good enough to be an NFL QB when the Broncos took him in the 2010 NFL Draft.  But, I knew he definitely had the heart to succeed.  He isn’t putting up great numbers (at least passing) so far this year, but he is winning as the Broncos are 4-1 when he starts at QB.  Tebow has played in 8 games (5 starts) so far this year and he has completed 56 of 125 passes (44.8%) for 709 yards with 7 TD passes and 1 INT (78.4 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 56 times for 388 yards (6.9 ypc) with 3 TD runs so far this year.  Tebow has now played in 17 games (8 starts) in his first two years with the Broncos and he has completed 97 of 207 passes (46.9%) for 1,363 yards with 12 TD passes and 4 INTs (79.8 QB Rating.  He has also carried the ball 99 times for 615 yards (6.2 ypc) with 9 TD runs so far in his career.  The Broncos are 5-3 (62.5%) in games started at QB by Tim Tebow.  People need to get off of Tim Tebow’s back and realize that he is a winner, plain and simple.
