The NFL card looks a little better than last week’s.  Here is a look at how I see things shaking down against the spread today and tomorrow:

BEST BETS:

Tennessee Titans (-9) over the Indianapolis Colts:  The Titans are going to be angry after getting pasted by the Texans last week.  They are going to take it out on the worst team in the NFL today.  I like the Titans to win this game 31-13.

New Orleans Saints (-13.5) over the St. Louis Rams:  The Saints are on the road today, but they are still in a dome…where they excel.  They are also playing one of the worst teams in the NFL.  I like the Saints to win 31-10 and to cover the big pointspread.

Detroit Lions (-3) over the Denver Broncos:  The Lions need to get back on the right path and that is going to happen in Denver today.  There will be no 4th quarter comeback from Tim Tebow today.  I like the Lions to win this game 24-13.

New England Patriots (-2.5) over the Pittsburgh Steelers:  Tom Brady owns the Steelers and he will once again today.  I like the Patriots to win this game 38-27.

SOLID BETS:

Cleveland Browns (+9) over the San Francisco 49ers:  The San Francisco 49ers are rolling right now and I think they will win a close game today, 20-17 over the pesky Browns.  But, I like the Browns to cover the big point spread.

Dallas Cowboys (+3) over the Philadelphia Eagles:  The Eagles aren’t near as good as everyone thought they would be.  I think the Cowboys are really going to step up and pull the upset tonight.  I like the Cowboys to win 30-27 tonight.

Kansas City Chiefs (+3) over the San Diego Chargers:  The Chiefs are on a roll right now, winning 3 games in a row.  The Chargers are 4-2, but they have not looked good this year.  I like the Chiefs to pull the upset on Monday Night Football at Arrowhead Stadium, 20-17.

DECENT BETS:

Houston Texans (-9.5) over the Jacksonville Jaguars:  I look for the Texans to dominate this game on both sides of the ball today.  I like the Texans to win this game 27-13 over the Jaguars.

New York Giants (-9.5) over the Miami Dolphins:  The Dolphins have already hoisted the White Flag this year and the Giants are not going to take it easy on them today.  I like the Giants to win this game 30-17 over the Fins.

Cincinnati Bengals (-1) over the Seattle Seahawks:  The Bengals are hungry right now and they will be the better team this Sunday in Seattle.  I like the Bengals to win this game 20-16.

I WOULD TAKE A PASS ON THESE GAMES:

Baltimore Ravens (-12.5) over the Arizona Cardinals:  The Ravens’ defense is going to dominate the Cardinals’ offense today.  It’s hard to bet on the Ravens laying a lot of points due to the recent play of Joe Flacco.  I like the Ravens to win this game 24-10.

Washington Redskins (+4.5) over the Buffalo Bills:  This game is in Toronto, so it’s not really a home field for the Bills.  I like the Redskins to keep this game close as I like the Bills to win this game 27-24.

Carolina Panthers (-3.5) over the Minnesota Vikings:  The Panthers are likely going to win this game, but the Vikings showed a lot of spunk last weekend in Christian Ponder’s first start.  I like the Panthers to win this game 27-23.

Here is how I see the teams ranking in College Football going into Halloween Weekend

Blogged under College Football, Bloglockers, Football, Front Page, General by admin on Friday 28 October 2011 at 8:31 pm

This weekend is loaded with good games, but next week’s matchup between LSU and Alabama will shake the rankings up quite a bit as someone will have to lose.  Here is a look at my rankings heading into this weekend’s games:

1. LSU (8-0) - LSU whipped Auburn 45-10 last weekend in Louisiana.  They have this weekend off, which will give them a couple of weeks to prepare for next week’s game at Alabama.

2. Alabama (8-0) - Alabama throttled Tennessee 37-6 at home last weekend.  They have this weekend off too, as they will have an extra week to prepare for a visit from LSU next weekend.

3. Boise State (7-0) - Boise State held off a pesky Air Force squad 37-26 at home last weekend.  Boise has this weekend off.

4. Oklahoma State (7-0) - The Cowboys beat up on Missouri 45-24 on the road last weekend.  They will host a tough, high scoring Baylor team tomorrow.

5. Stanford (7-0) - Stanford beat Washington 65-21 at home last weekend.  They face their toughest test of the year tomorrow when the travel to play my #13 ranked USC Trojans.

6. Clemson (8-0) - Clemson won a shootout at home last weekend, 59-38 over North Carolina.  Clemson will play at Georgia Tech this weekend in another very tough game.

7. Oklahoma (7-1) - The Sooners were ambushed at home last weekend as Texas Tech beat them 41-38.  Oklahoma will travel to Kansas State tomorrow to play my #10 ranked Wildcats.

8. Oregon (6-1) - The Oregon Ducks destroyed Colorado 45-2 on the road last weekend!  They will host Washington State tomorrow.

9. Houston (8-0) - The Houston Cougars punished Marshall at home last weekend 63-28.  They also pounded Rice last night in Houston, 73-34!

10. Kansas State (7-0) - The Wildcats punished the Jayhawks at Kansas, 59-21 last weekend.  They will host my #7 ranked Oklahoma Sooners tomorrow.  A win would vault them up a few spots in the rankings.

11. Michigan State (6-1) - The Spartans beat Wisconsin on a Hail Mary on the last play of the game last weekend as they won 37-31.  They face another tough test this weekend against my #21 ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers on the road.

12. Virginia Tech (7-1) - Virginia Tech cruised at home last week to a 30-14 win over Boston College.  They will travel to Duke this weekend for a likely easy win.

13. USC (7-1) - USC pounded Notre Dame 31-17 on the road last weekend.  This weekend they are going to host my #5 ranked Stanford Cardinal.

14. South Carolina (6-1) - The Gamecocks were off last weekend, giving them two weeks to prepare for their road trip to Tennessee to play the Volunteers.

15. Arkansas (6-1) - The Razorbacks won a tough game last weekend, 28-24 over Mississippi.  This weekend they will travel to Tennessee to deal with Vanderbilt.

16. Wisconsin (6-1) - The Badgers lost a heartbreaker last week, 37-31 to Michigan State on the last play of the game.  They are likely going to be angry when they visit the Horse Shoe against the Buckeyes tomorrow night.

17. Southern Mississippi (6-1) - The Golden Eagles pounded SMU 27-3 last weekend at home.  They are going to travel to El Paso this weekend to deal with UTEP.

18. Michigan (6-1) - The Wolverines were off last weekend, giving them two weeks to prepare for a visit from Purdue.

19. Georgia (5-2) - The Bulldogs have won 5 games in a row.  They were off last weekend, which gave them two weeks to get ready for the Biggest Outdoor Cocktail Party of the Year in Jacksonville.  That means a tilt with the Florida Gators.

20. Cincinnati (6-1) - The Bearcats outlasted the South Florida Bulls 37-34 in Tampa last weekend.  They are off this weekend.

21. Nebraska (6-1) - The Cornhuskers won 41-14 at Minnesota last weekend.  They are in for a battle at home tomorrow against my #11 ranked Michigan State Spartans.

22. Penn State (7-1) - The Nittany Lions won 34-24 at Northwestern last weekend.  Things start getting tougher this weekend when Illinois comes in for a visit tomorrow.

23. Texas A&M (5-2) - The Aggies dropped Iowa State 33-17 on the road last weekend.  They will host Missouri tomorrow.

24. Texas Tech (5-2) - The Red Raiders shocked the world last week with their 41-38 upset over the Sooners in Oklahoma.  Tomorrow they will host Iowa State.

25. TCU (5-2) - The Horned Frogs bashed New Mexico 69-0 at home last weekend.  They are hosting BYU tonight.

Why should all the good teams get the fanfare in College Football?

Blogged under College Football, Bloglockers, Football, Front Page, General by admin on Friday 28 October 2011 at 7:35 pm

Here is my rankings for the worst 10 teams in college football in 2011, so far.  The teams are ranked by how awful that they are with #1 being the worst.  Here we go:

1. New Mexico - (0-7) - New Mexico is just plain pathetic as they are only scoring 15.1 points per game this year while giving up 47.6 points per game.

2. Florida Atlantic (0-7) - I should tell you that the Owls took the cash and beatings earlier this year against really good teams (Florida, Michigan State and Auburn) but they have not done much better against the teams in the Sun Belt.  The Owls are averaging 11.7 points while they are giving up 34.4 points per game this year.

3. Kent State (1-6) - The Golden Flashes only win this year came against South Alabama at home.  They are averaging only 10.7 points per game and they are giving up 28.0 points per game.

4. Idaho (1-6) - Idaho’s only win this season came at home against North Dakota.  They are scoring 20.7 points per game while giving up 29.6 points per game this year.

5. Akron (1-6) - The Zips are just plain awful, with their only win coming at home against VMI.  The Zips are averaging 16.1 points per game and they are giving up 35.7.

6. Indiana (1-7) - The Hoosiers flat out suck in football.  Their only win of the season came at home against South Carolina State.  They are averaging 21.4 points per game and giving up 33.4.

7. Colorado (1-7) - The Buffaloes should have stayed in the Big 12.  They beat the rival Colorado State for their only win of the year so far.  They are averaging 19.4 points per game and they are giving up 37.1 points.

8. Boston College (1-6) - Boston College is the worst that I can ever remember them being.  They beat U. Mass earlier this year and that’s it.  They are averaging 18.7 points per game this year and they are giving up 26.3 per game.

9. UNLV (1-5) - The Rebels showed up one day this year as they pounded Hawaii, 40-20 in Vegas.  That alone proves that they can play well once in a while.  They are only averaging 15.7 points per game this year while giving up 41.5 points.

10. Memphis (2-6) - Memphis has somehow won two games this year, because they really stink.  They have beaten Tulane and Austin Peay.  Memphis is averaging 16.4 points per game this year, while giving up 34.0 points per game.

This weekend looks a little tricky because of big lines in the NFL

Blogged under Bloglockers, Football, Vegas Lines, Front Page, General by admin on Sunday 23 October 2011 at 7:38 am

Don’t be scared of some of the bigger numbers this weekend as the teams that are favored appear to be legit in those games.  Here is a look at how I see the games going down against the spread this Sunday and Monday Night in the NFL:

ALMOST SURE THINGS:

Pittsburgh Steelers (-3.5) over the Arizona Cardinals:  Ordinarily I would stay away from something that looks too good to be true.  But, the Cardinals have lost five games in a row and I don’t see them changing that today.  I like the Steelers to win this game 30-13 and easily cover the pointspread.

Green Bay Packers (-9.5) over the Minnesota Vikings:  The Vikings are without both of their starting corners and they are also giving Christian Ponder his first NFL start.  Ponder is going to look like a deer in headlights with Clay Matthews chasing him around all day.  I like the Packers to win this game 31-10.

Dallas Cowboys (-13.5) over the St. Louis Rams:  The Cowboys are going to take out all of their frustration on the poor Rams today.  The Rams are starting A.J. Feeley at QB today.  I like the Cowboys 31-7 today.

Baltimore Ravens (-9) over the Jacksonville Jaguars:  I’m a little scared of laying 9 points with Joe Flacco starting at QB.  But, I see now way the Jags even get close to the goal line on Monday Night.  I like the Ravens 24-6.

SOLID PICKS:

Atlanta Falcons (+4) over the Detroit Lions:  The Lions’ weakness was exposed last weekend by Frank Gore and the 49ers.  Michael Turner is going to roll up huge numbers in this game as the Falcons pull an upset and beat the Lions 30-27.

Denver Broncos (+1) over the Miami Dolphins:  It’s the Tim Tebow show in Miami today.  The Dolphins are celebrating the Florida Gators’ 2008 National Title for some reason, so the Broncos will probably feel like the home team.  I like the Broncos to win this game 27-20, so you might want to take the money line.

NOT SO BAD:

Tennessee Titans (-3) over the Houston Texans:  The Texans have stumbled as of late and they will be without Andre Johnson once again this weekend.  The Titans are going to take care of business in this game as they are going to win it 23-17.

Kansas City Chiefs (+4) over the Oakland Raiders:  The Raiders are starting Kyle Boller at QB today, but, the Raiders have won 10 games in a row against AFC West teams.  For that reason, I look for them to win 20-19…..but the Chiefs to cover the pointspread.

CLOSE CALLS:

Seattle Seahawks (+3) over the Cleveland Browns:  I think the Browns are going to win a very close game this Sunday.  I like the Browns to win this game 21-20, but the Seahawks to cover.

New York Jets (-1) over the San Diego Chargers:  The Chargers are the more talented team.  But, Rex Ryan is better coach than Norv Turner and the game is in New Jersey.  I like the Jets to win this game 23-20.

New Orleans Saints (-14) over the Indianapolis Colts:  Beware of the backdoor cover in this game.  I like the Saints to pound on the Colts in the Super Dome, where they never overlook anyone.  I like the Saints to win and cover this game, 33-17.

Carolina Panthers (-2.5) over the Washington Redskins:  The Panthers are catching the Redskins at the perfect time as they are giving QB John Beck his first start of the year.  The Panthers are going to win this game 24-20 and cover the spread.

PUSH CITY:

Chicago Bears at Tampa Buccaneers (in London):  The Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are very even teams.  I like the Bears (who are 1 point favorites) to beat the Bucs 21-20.

Here is a look at my college rankings going into this weekend’s (October 21st) games

Blogged under College Football, Bloglockers, Football, Front Page, General by admin on Friday 21 October 2011 at 7:34 pm

There are still 10 undefeated teams in Division 1 Football, as the need for a playoff system continues to rage.  Here is a look at how I would vote if I had one:

1. LSU (7-0) - The LSU Tigers continue rolling last weekend as they thrashed the Tennesse Volunteers 38-7 on their own field!  LSU will have a test at home against Auburn this Saturday.

2. Alabama (7-0) - The Crimson Tide rolled 52-7 at Mississippi last weekend.  They will be getting a visit from Tennessee tomorrow.

3. Oklahoma (6-0) - The Sooners pounded Kansas 47-17 on the road last weekend.  The will be getting a visit from the pesky Texas Tech Red Raiders tomorrow.

4. Boise State (6-0) - The Broncos rolled 63-13 at Colorado State last weekend.  Up next for them is a visit from the Air Force Academy.

5. Oklahoma State (6-0) - The Cowboys thumped the Longhorns 38-26 in Austin last weekend.  They travel to Missouri tomorrow for an alleged tough test.

6. Wisconsin (6-0) - The Badgers thrashed the Hoosiers 59-7 at Camp Randall last weekend.  This week the games start to get tougher as they travel to Michigan State.

7. Stanford (7-0) - Stanford won 44-14 at Washington State last Saturday.  This week they will be dealing with my #19 ranked Washington Huskies in Palo Alto.

8. Clemson (7-0) - Clemson won a shootout last weekend at Maryland, 56-45.  They will face another tough test with North Carolina paying them a visit tomorrow.

9. Oregon (5-1) - The Oregon Ducks won a 41-27 shootout at home against Arizona State last week.  They travel to Colorado this week and they are going to paste the Buffaloes.

10. Houston (6-0) - Houston had a off-week last weekend.  That gave them two weeks to get ready for the visiting Marshall Thundering Herd.

11. Kansas State (6-0) - Kansas State held on for a nice road win last weekend over Texas Tech, 41-34.  This week they head to Kansas to play the rival Jayhawks.

12. Virginia Tech (6-1) - The Hokies got a nice road win over Wake Forest last weekend (38-17).  This weekend they will be entertaining the awful Boston College crew.

13. USC (5-1) - USC was very impressive in beating California 30-9 last weekend.   This week is the toughest game of the year so far at rival Notre Dame.

14. South Carolina (6-1) - The Gamecocks won 14-12 at Mississippi State last weekend.  They are off this weekend.

15. Arkansas (5-1) - The Razorbacks were off last weekend and they will play at Mississippi tomorrow.

16. Michigan State (5-1) - The Spartans shut down the Wolverines last weekend as they beat them 28-14.  They can’t afford a letdown against my #6 ranked Wisconsin Badgers.  At least the Spartans get them in East Lansing.

17. West Virginia (5-1) - The Mountaineers were off last weekend.  They are playing at Syracuse tonight.

18. Southern Mississippi (5-1) - Southern Miss. were off last weekend but they face a tough against SMU tomorrow.

19. Washington (5-1) - The Huskies won 52-24 at home against Colorado last weekend.  They have a date with my #7 ranked Stanford Cardinal tomorrow….and it’s a road game.

20. Georgia Tech (6-1) - Georgia Tech lost a tough game 24-21 last weekend at Virginia.  They are heading to Miami for a date with the Hurricanes this weekend.

21. Rutgers (5-1) - Rutgers nipped the Navy 21-20 last weekend.  They are playing at Louisville tonight.

22. Michigan (6-1) - The Wolverines got ripped 28-14 at Michigan State last weekend.  They are off tomorrow.

23. Georgia (5-2) - The Bulldogs have won five games in a row, as they are now a team on the rise.  They won 33-28 at Vanderbilt last weekend and they are off tomorrow.

24. UL-Lafayette (6-1) - The Ragin’ Cajuns thumped North Texas 30-10 last week.  They travel to Western Kentucky tomorrow.

25. Illinois (6-1) - Illinois flunked it’s first big test last weekend as they lost 17-7 to the Buckeyes.  They will try to rebound at Purdue tomorrow.
